Preparation Checklist Before an Epoxy Application

The success of an epoxy application is largely decided before the day of the application arrives. The headings below are the ones we go through together during the site survey and that the business needs to prepare in advance.

This list is not a set of demands; it is a summary of the delays we run into most often on site, so that the job can be finished in one go and without trouble.

In order: grinding or scarifying the surface, removing the dust, repairing cracks and hollows, priming, then the coats of the system chosen. Every step has its own waiting time, and those times change with the temperature.

A surface becoming touch-dry is not the same as the cure being finished; the floor is opened to full load only once curing is over.

Skipping the moisture test. It is the most common cause of blistering.

Cutting back on surface preparation. Even the most expensive resin cannot hold onto a loose layer.

Opening the floor to traffic too early. A forklift driven in before the cure is complete leaves a permanent mark.
