Epoxy Mortar Flooring

Epoxy mortar cleans easily and offers high mechanical strength and chemical resistance. On new slabs — and on worn, pitted or damaged ones — it produces a dense, hard, bright surface. The finish can be semi-textured or fully textured, and floors go down quickly and last.

Trowel-applied epoxy mortar is designed for badly broken concrete, for heavy vehicle traffic and for areas with intensive chemical exposure — heavy industry and floors under constant load. Laid from 0.8 mm up to 20 mm, it is used on industrial floors of every kind: chemical, power and machinery plants, the automotive sector, warehousing and any floor carrying heavy loads, in a choice of colours.

This is the system to use when a damaged floor has to be levelled and a dust-free surface is wanted. Potholes and worn hollows are filled, and what comes out is a flatter, brighter floor — laid fast enough to avoid a long shutdown. Keep heavy loads off a new surface for about seven days. Resistance to abrasion and impact is high, the surface is impermeable and holds no dust, and it is known for how easily it cleans. It is hygienic, and per square metre it costs less than most alternatives. Repairs are straightforward, which is another reason it gets specified: worn surfaces, and surfaces heading that way, can be brought back quickly. It is used in factories, on industrial floors, in the automotive sector — in short, on any floor carrying heavy loads.

Hollows and joints filled with epoxy mortar are stronger and bond better than screed, so the epoxy coating laid over them is more robust and lasts longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we are asked most about Epoxy Mortar Flooring, answered by our technical team. If something here does not cover your case, call us on 0507 597 9537.

How long does an epoxy floor last?

With proper surface preparation and the right system, an epoxy floor lasts 8–15 years in industrial use. Three things decide its life: the soundness of the existing concrete, the thickness of the system chosen and the intensity of forklift and load traffic it carries.

What determines the price per square metre?

Price depends on the area in square metres, the system chosen (coating, self-levelling, multilayer, antistatic, mortar), the film thickness and the condition of the existing slab. Grinding, repair and priming are added where the substrate needs them. HBK carries out free site surveys across the eight provinces we serve.

When can the floor be used after application?

Foot traffic is allowed roughly 24 hours after application. Full mechanical and chemical resistance needs seven days of cure, and heavy loads or chemical contact should be kept off the floor until then.

Should I choose epoxy or polyurethane?

Choose epoxy for enclosed areas where heavy mechanical load and chemical resistance come first. Choose polyurethane for outdoor areas, UV exposure, thermal shock or where the slab is likely to move and crack. Food plants washed down with hot water need Ucrete polyurethane concrete.
