Acrylic courts are durable, hygienic, easy to clean and quick to repair. Their real advantage is that, laid properly, they need almost no maintenance. Almost — not none. Keeping dust and dirt off the surface extends the life of the colour coat, makes the area safer to play on and keeps it looking the way it should.
Cleaning takes only a few materials and anyone can do it — and with those few materials the court can look new again. Here is how to clean yours, and how to make it last.
Acrylic court cleaning and maintenance
Start by clearing everything that will get in the way: blow off all leaves, sand, grit and litter with a blower, working from the centre of the court outwards. 01
Sprinkle detergent over the surface and work it into a foam with a pressure hose, washing one half of the court at a time. Keep the pressure moderate — too much will strip the acrylic colour coat. Rinse the surface down and leave it to dry. 02
For mould, mix bleach and water in a 20-litre bucket and apply it to the affected and soiled areas. Wear nylon gloves. Brush the problem area for a minute and rinse off with water. If traces of mould remain, apply the solution again. 03
Before the court goes back into use, make sure it is completely dry. Check it periodically for mould, dust, wear and soiling — that is what keeps a surface in service for years rather than seasons. 04
